Small screen is no more 'small'. Even the seductive silver screen laced with star power and multi-crore budgets is now looking at the small screen for creating a buzz. Since five years, film promotions through reality shows have been a constant factor. But now film promotions are looking at daily soaps for enticing the audiences to see the action unfold in dark theatres. And with this drift, lies a a smart strategy to make the pan-Indian audiences get a sneak peek at the upcoming players fighting for raking in moolah at the ticket window. Not only the lead film stars are making their entries for special episodes in daily soaps — they are playing the movie characters as well to give that extra punch to their promtional acts. Here's a look at the latest 'filmi' daily soaps.

In times when TRPs can decide the popularity of soaps on a weekly basis, GECs feel shows need aggressive and more direct promotional activities even though they involve huge sums of money. Ajay Bhalwankar, content head of a GEC says, "Pavitra Rishta's strength lies in understanding Mumbai's common man and mirroring his reality. Creating an opportunity to shoot in a chawl in Mumbai is our way of thanking out audiences who have loved and supported the show."


The showmakers don't mind spending the moolah for all these promotional activities. Prashant says, "How you package your show makes all the difference these days and for that one need to spend money. If a small gift is wrapped in a fancy way, then it definitely attracts more attention. They say a book shouldn't be judged by its cover, but if the cover isn't appealing then no one will pick it up from the shelf. So, one has to go out of its way and make a mark."

If we switch o the television sets in our home we can easily notice that every channel is just same as our school gardening days’ every channel one or the other reality shows are going on. The trend of reality shows came in to India with a great impact on the audience. Today the television is something bigger than just a medium of communication, so the level of importance has also increased a lot and the level of entertainment have also increased with the new running generation trend. The look out of viewers has totally changed in today’s generation regarding the concept of reality shows.

The reality shows have successfully captured almost every point of life cooking till love life. Though its some thing strange to here this but its true, the Cooking,Dancing,Signing,Education,Talents, and even for some personal love problems too there are reality shows and the main element is that the audience are liking the way the shows are packed with full entertaining elements it them. Actually in the course of time the concept of reality is totally changing day after day.

The shows like “Big Boss”“Sach Ka Saamna” “Emotional Atyachar””Swayamwar””Entertainment k liyae kuch bhe karay ga””Master chef India””Boogi woogi””Dance India Dance” and so and so far, this all belongs to hard core entertainment boosters. But the shows like”Kaun banay ga crore pati””Satyamav jayathe”””  are some of the best examples of educational sort of reality show, but still all the basic idea of all the reality shows is to gain more and more profit by selling the emotions to the viewers in one or the other way.


As a viewers perception he or she always has an soft corners to some or the other concept of the reality because the audience intent to relate them selves to one of the conductance in the reality shows with out thinking about the motivation behind it , but some times its possible that the audience might be knowing the next step of the reality shows but still they love to watch it, and this interest is what gives birth to new dimensions for creative  ideas, for this the best example is of the show called “boogi woogi". When a life of parties, short-term relationships, drugs, and alcohol are leading celebrities like Britney, Paris, and Lindsay to spiral out of control, you would think that their lifestyle is not ideal. But, fans of these stars disagree. 

Now, in an age where we have more contact with celebrity gossip than we have ever had, we are faced with a question: what are the effects that superstars have on our youth? Celebrities influence fans to be destructively thin, put harmful substances in their bodies, and many parents are concerned with the overall content these celebrities are putting on television, in movies, and over the Internet. Pop culture idols need to think twice before making a poor decision or practicing awful morals because of their influence on their young fans and other people who may look up to them. 


Celebrities do not only have a negative impact on the looks and personalities of fans, but also in their health. With superstars like Kate Moss taking insane amounts of drugs, and all such type of things shown on the television daily soaps will directly effect in the minds of teenagers and they will take it as style statements. 

Even the rude behavior of any character may also lead to some of the negative signs in the minds of the teenagers. If we try to notice then we can see the collage going girls and boys talking and trying to act like some or the other character in any of the daily soaps they are watching regularly basically it’s just the human nature to adopt what it like the most. Actually all this is the scientific which are purposely negated by the daily soaps makers knowing or unknowing.

Current trends on TV revolve around game shows, reality shows, dance competitions and soap operas. Hindi serials have come a long way, right from the golden era of Doordarshan when viewers waited for the weekend to watch their favorite Hindi classic show on Saturday night.

That time, owning a TV was itself a luxury. The arrival of satellite television gave a new dimension to television entertainment. Advancements in technology introduced flat screen TVs. The entry of foreign entertainment channels during 1990s was influential in forming an entirely unique market for the TV serials. Star Network, Channel V, Zee and other channels changed the pattern of Hindi TV through their programs. Among all TV channels in India, Star Network utilized new emerging opportunities that were unfamiliar to the Indian TV viewers earlier. With attractive content and a unique theme for every different TV program, the channels now showcase serials that entertain viewers. From serials that lacked attractive content and a story-line, today channels have moved ahead with programs that people like to watch repeatedly. Today’s TV programs are a combination of a perfect plot, story and a theme.

Reality shows and daily soaps are amongst the various categories of television channels that constantly receive appreciation. The changing trends in popularity of various categories clearly suggest the progress of Indian TV. Long gone are the days when viewers had to be satisfied with limited entertainment that was telecast on national TV. With introduction of cable TV and pay-per-view option, audience receives a wider choice to tune in their favorite program. Set-top boxes and HD TV have added a new dimension and technology in the programs with a record-view option.


With Hindi shows like ‘Kaun Banega Corepati’ hosted by Amitabh Bacchan and ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ hosted by Akshay Kumar, the Hindi TV industry entertained millions of viewers.

Are we really started dreaming like Daily soaps serials?

Prime-time television in India is not really known for sensible content. Especially the soap operas. I have never been a fan but one tedious evening, I switched on the telly and sat through one “saas-bahu” serial after another.
What was it about family dramas that kept millions of Indian women glued to their TV sets each evening? I intended to find out .In one such episode, a mother-in-law laments the loss of an unborn grandchild.
“We have lost our grandson and our daughter-in-law cannot bear a child after this. Now we will never have a grandson to take the family name forward.”
Can the television industry shrug off its responsibility so easily in a country where killing of female foetuses is common and preference for sons runs deep?
In a report last year, the United Nations estimated that 2,000 unborn girls are illegally aborted every day in India.
As the story of one serial after the other unfolded on screen, I realized that to be the “perfect” woman on Indian television, one needed to be a docile housewife and sacrifice everything for the family’s happiness.
Experts warn that fewer women will spark a demographic crisis in India which could lead to more crimes against women — as there would be fewer left to marry.
I am not asking television producers, many of whom are women and lead very different lives than that of their characters on the telly, to broadcast sermons on female feticide.

But it will take them just a few changes in their scripts to conjure up a healthy dose of daily entertainment — without sending their audiences the wrong message.

The never ending story of Madhubala…

The operas have moods, just like their characters do. And it’s all to win the TVT (Television Viewership In Thousands – formerly TRP oo Television Rating Point – race. Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon is no exception. After Madhu (Drashti Dhami) and her man RK go through all sorts of trials and tribulations until they finally admit they love each other and get married (after more ups and downs and a few left turns), they kind of settle into tentative wedded bliss. And in the latest drama to unfold in their combined lives, Madhu acts out the role of the heroine in a movie that RK decides to make. That is not an easy process either.

There are misunderstandings, fights and a dreadfully overacted scene in which Madhu stabs RK, who suffers a paralytic attack and drags one leg thereafter. But the show – as it does in real life– goes on. RK agrees to make the film a woman-centric one so that he can take to recover, but starts becoming insecure when he realises that Madhu outshines him. Of course there are people just waiting to inflame the situation; Deepali (Seema Mishra) drips verbal poison into RK’s ear and causes more dissent between him and his wife.

But along the way, even as Madhu starts getting really upset with her husband and his behaviour, she realises that there is more in store for her. At Diwali puja she starts feeling very unwell and does a quick calculation that brings up a reality that the doctor confirms. Is she happy – she has to be, perhaps after a few doubts, because she is a biwi and bahu, hai na? But will RK be happy with the news that he is to become a daddy? Will he be loving and supportive, or will he be his usual bad-tempered self and throw another snit-fit? Will their relationship survive this latest twist in the tale? We wait to find out….

The story was started with something else and now the track is totally different but still it has the highest rating this itself shows the mindset of the people. And the impact of agenda setting theory.

The trending in Mythologies.

Indian entertainment television channels have always had a captive audience for their tele-serials. These are predominantly complex family sagas with weeping women and conniving mothers-in-law plotting against daughters-in-law.

But now the gods are back in the 21st century to break the stranglehold of soaps on Indian TV. Tele-serials based on Hindu mythology with their many gods have stormed television gaining a loyal audience.

For proof, look no further than Mahabharat, the grand epic where women, wars and villains are in plenty, and life’s lessons are uttered through the mouths of the gods themselves.

Mahabharat, the Hindi language serial airing on Star Plus since mid-September at prime time - 8:30pm - five days a week, is having a successful run with new age techniques and fresh acting giving new blood to an ancient epic. In 1988, at 10am every Sunday, is one of the funny thing which I feel when I think of that time.
Non-believers, who felt the Indian youth of the 21st century would not relish these Hindu epics on TV, have been proven wrong.

The new Mahabharat has made a conscious effort to grab the eyeballs of a younger generation growing up with the technological gizmos of the 21st century. Special effects make the war scenes truly epic.
Mahabharat is the grand old epic story of warring cousins, the Kauravas and the Pandavas, who fought a deadly war.

"That is the challenge. As a 21st century person, it took me almost a month to get into the role," he added.
Mohit Raina, who plays the god Shiva in Mahadev, sheepishly admitted that young women "do not flirt" with him. Instead he has been accosted by women fans in malls falling at his feet "seeking divine blessings as I play Shiva on TV".

The curtains will ring down on Mahabharat in June this year, but going by how Indians love their mythologies, the gods it seems are here to stay on telly.
